Why does hypermart need to bring in searchbuttom.com to help on search????? Because what metacrawler does and what a normal search engine does are quite different things. A regular search engine, say like the one Inktomi runs, or Google- has to go out on the web (or in this case every HyperMart web site) and take note of all the text on that site's pages. Then it has to compile all that data into a huge database so people can search on it. It is quite a bit of work and cost to do. Metacrawler on the other hand is easier to do (IMO)- when you search it, it simply sends your search to the other search engines and waits for their results to come back. It takes the results and sorts them together into some sort of order and shows it to you. It requires very little "horsepower" to run.
