Yes, the European gauntlet is formidable. But the point sometimes forgotten is that Qualcomm has nothing to lose in Europe. It is zero at present. So there are two points:

1.Nothing can be less than zero (the CDMA market in Europe now)

2.And, data will be the key for the future.

The comparison between GSM data upgrades in current spectrum and that of CDMA/HDR (1xEV) put the latter so far ahead in practical terms that perhaps, just perhaps, VOD and others will want to use Qualcomm's technology next year or the next, or the next ... or....

And Qualcomm can only gain.

Meanwhile, outside of Europe in any head to head competition CDMA/HDR (1xEV) will easily outdistance GSM in current spectrum when it comes to wireless / internet connections.

Will be fun to watch.

And Qualcomm has absolutely nothing to lose, just a great deal of potential gain.

Best.
