Microsoft Takes Action Against 7,500 Sites for Piracy Redmond, Washington, Aug. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp.,
the world's largest software maker, said it has taken legal action
against more than 7,500 Web sites and auction sites worldwide for
selling programs the company says are counterfeit.
Microsoft is working with others in its industry and with
authorities to stop sales of illegal products offered through
Internet servers in 33 countries. The company said it sought
removal of products it believed to be counterfeit and took further
legal action if sites or sellers didn't comply.
The campaign has led to 64 raids and 17 civil lawsuits in 15
countries, the company said. In the U.S., Redmond, Washington-
based Microsoft is announcing six Internet antipiracy lawsuits
today and settlement of two more.
The company said it's using new technology such as an
automatic monitor to search suspect sites for sales or auctions of
illegal materials 24 hours a day and to find the sellers.
