Precision Laser Center is First in Connecticut to Offer Breakthrough HYPERION
LTK System for Treatment of Farsightedness

CHESHIRE, Conn., Aug 1, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- A breakthrough
treatment for hyperopia (farsightedness) in patients at the baby boomer age of
40 and over that has recently been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration is now available in Connecticut. Precision Laser Vision Center,
in Cheshire, Connecticut is the first laser vision correction center in
Connecticut to offer the HYPERION LTK System for treatment of hyperopia,
developed by Sunrise Technologies International, Inc. of Fremont, Calif.

The laser time of SUNRISE LTK Procedure is about three seconds and involves no
cutting or removal of the corneal tissue. The HYPERION LTK System gently heats
tissue outside the center of the cornea, thereby causing it to steepen and
reduce hyperopia.

"We are very excited about the potential of the SUNRISE LTK Procedure to improve
the vision of our farsightedness patients who are age 40 or older," said Dr.
Mark Milner, one of the clinical investigators for the SUNRISE LTK System and an
Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Yale University. "The HYPERION
LTK System utilizes familiar techniques and is performed in our center. Safety
data from the United States clinical trials reported no sight-threatening
complications and no laser-related adverse events in over 600 eyes treated
during the study. The HYPERION LTK System, which was designed specifically for
farsightedness, represents the latest available alternative to the over 60
million farsighted individuals age 40 and over within the United States. The
procedure is so safe that both eyes can be treated on the same day", says Dr.
Milner.

The SUNRISE LTK Procedure differs in numerous ways from other refractive
procedures:

Safe. The "no-touch" SUNRISE LTK Procedure differs from procedures such
as PRK, LASIK, and RK because no scalpel incisions or laser ablations are
used to cut to remove corneal tissue; and from ICR (Intracorneal Ring) and
Intraocular Lens (IOL) procedures because no objects are inserted into the
eye. Instead a holmium: YAG laser gently applies two concentric rings of
eight simultaneous spots of laser energy to the mid-periphery of the
cornea to heat the corneal collagen and to steepen its shape.

Fast. The SUNRISE LTK Procedure takes about three seconds of actual laser
time per eye and can be done in the ophthalmologist's office. The patient
sits comfortably upright as if to undergo an eye exam, and both eyes can
be treated on the same day.

Quick Recovery. In U.S. clinical trials of the SUNRISE LTK Procedure,
patients generally have improved vision immediately after the procedure
and most people can return to work and resume their regular activities the
next day.

Positive Outcomes. In U.S. clinical trials of the SUNRISE LTK Procedure,
there have been no reported laser-related adverse or sight-threatening
complications.

"As is true for any surgical procedure, we evaluate each patient on a
case-by-case basis to determine if the SUNRISE LTK Procedure is appropriate,"
says Dr. Milner.
