Art, I thought that you would need a macro lens of some sort to do this. I believe that there is an macro accessory lens for my Coolpix 800. I'll check into that...

Betty, I have a Nikon F2 SLR with all the lenses, etc., but that was a real pain to lug around if you just wanted snapshots from a barbecue. Then I either did the Polaroid Spectra (major crowd pleaser, but each pic is an original - copies are a pain and never as good), or Kodak/Fuji disposables. I have actually taken some excellent photos with disposables and I could just stick it in my back pocket, not even worry about sitting on it or losing it. So convenient! If you like compactness, check out the new Canon Powershot. 2.11 megapixels, but flat and pocketable. The Nikon Coolpix 800 is kinda lumpy as are many digicams.

I would expect that the reliability of these things to be on par with other electronic devices, however, I do sense that most of them are more fragile and sensitive to abuse than their film counterparts.
