Toshiba Ships Samples Of 256M FCRAM
Wednesday, August 2, 2000
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Toshiba Corp. (6502) has developed and begun shipping samples of DDR (double-data rate) 256M FCRAM (fast-cycle random access memory).

Toshiba and Fujitsu Ltd. (6702) began working in February 1999 to jointly develop and commercialize the high-speed, energy-efficient memory chip, which consumes 30% less power than energy-efficient DRAM.

Introducing a high-capacity version ahead of the rest of the industry will allow Toshiba to gain an early foothold in supplying the chip for workstations and high-speed image-processing systems. The company plans to develop a lineup of 18 models, and hopes to begin full-scale production as early as the fall.
