I need some help with understanding the HMM approach to voice recognition. Reading fonix's literature gave me the impression that HMM was an old-fashioned, dead-end approach to voice recognition. But with Dragon Dictate, L&H, and IBM all continuing to make progress toward user independent, continuous speech models, I have begun to wonder - is HMM really a dead end? Or was that an assumption based on technology limitations (RAM, processor speed, etc.) which may not be limited after all? Any thoughts out there? Bob
