Lighten up a little. The reason the saying is so demonstrative is that it is offensive. It was offensive to me the first time I heard it. That is the whole point. If it weren't offensive, the whole object, which is to put the answerer in an impossible position, would be lost. "When did you stop eating vanilla ice cream?" just doesn't convey the same idea.
