PT, we've been over this before.

Yes, some companies will not want to take the time to develop their own software - initially.

However, in large-scale manufacture, cost-reduction is of primary importance. While some comanies may go with EDIG software initially, they will write their own to replace it by the time they ramp-up to full production.

Heck, the biggest manufacturers have their own OS, which frustrates the hell out of companies like WIND. But WIND is never going to get that business, nor is anybody else.

Interestingly, there is a third-party embedded OS that is gaining a foothold in Japan. It's freeware, though, from a Japanese university. Forget the name, but it has a big chunk of the Japanese embedded OS market. The largest chunk, bigger than 50%, though? "Proprietary".

Reference designs are a positive - but they are not a substitute for OEM contracts.
