Globo Cabo, Laboratorio Fleury Offer Broadband In Brazil Dow Jones Newswires August 1, 2000 NEW YORK -- Globo Cabo S.A. (GLCBY) partnered with Laboratorio Fleury to offer broadband Internet connection and services in Brazil. Financial terms weren't disclosed. In a press release Tuesday, Globo Cabo said with the participation of Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), the agreement connects physicians registered with Fleury in Sao Paulo to Globo Cabo's Virtua broadband Internet product. A Globo Cabo spokesman said Microsoft has a 9% stake in Globo Cabo. Under the first phase of the program, 1,000 out of 10,000 physicians will be connected. The connection will be free and subscribers will be charged a maintenance fee. Services include video conferencing for remote diagnosis support to obtain a second opinion and video streaming for online courses and training. Laboratorio Fleury is a diagnostic services and clinical anlaysis laboratory in Brazil. Globo Cabo is a pay television and Internet broadband provider in Brazil.
