GE will now translate Commerce One's XML messages into the EDI format or just about any other communications protocol a supplier might ask for. And it will then translate it back into XML for the return trip to the Commerce One server.

This article seems a little uninformed, or maybe I'm not reading it right. Sounds like GE is merely providing consulting services just like KPMG and everybody else to get logistics and purchasing data off legacy systems and ERPs and into these exchanges. Big deal, thats just consulting you'd have to do anyway - XML or edi.
