Elmer & Intel Investors - Intel's new 1.13 GHz Pentium III is the new stepping we've heard about - and presumably all Pentium IIIs will eventually be converted to this stepping.

Here is what is quite interesting about this stepping - the Pentium III has been SHRUNK from 105 sq. mm to only 90 sq. mm.!!!!

That is a healthy 15% SHRINK - which will reduce costs by a proportionate amount - and INCREASE PRODUCTION !

When the YUK Wretchedster reported an impending FLOOD of 1 GHz Pentium IIIs, this reduced die size - and hence 15+% more die per wafer - will result in improved availability - essentially giving Intel an instant 15% CAPACITY EXPANSION - once the new reticle set is universally adopted throughout the Fabs producing Pentium IIIs!

Compared to AMD's ThumperTurd - which is a "hefty" 120 sq. mm. - the 90 mm "SpryCoppy" is 25% SMALLER !!!

Hence, Intel will have a BARE MINIMUM 25% silicon cost advantage over AMD - and of course, Intel's higher yields will mean an even GREATER COST advantage over AMD's ThumperTurd.

Further, since Celeron IIs use the same die as the Coppermine, the Celeron costs will also come down - giving Intel yet again a 10% silicon cost advantage over AMD's 100 sq. mm. Dupalon !

My guess is that AMD's ASPs are going to be under considerable pressure in the next two to three months !!!
