BRIAN...AFTER HOURS ORDERS...

After hours orders are handled mainly by ECN's. You are correct that ALL after hours order are LIMIT orders (excellent deduction - I mean that). You are also correct that the bid and offers are made up of all participants (in after hours trading only) combined.

As you can imagine, many times two ECN's may have orders that won't be paired off because the different ECN's do not communicate with each other (which is unfortunate). If you have access to SELECTNET in after hours you can trade with ANY ECN. If not, you are limited to whatever ECN and services (some offer SELECTNET and other services) that your broker provides.
