News from Oz. The boys over at Stockhouse are lining up and taking sides. If there is news from Cobalt, I must have missed it

AUSTRALIA: PRESTON SAYS BULONG RESTARTS AT END-JUNE.
2 Aug 2000 12:57GMT

PERTH, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Preston Resources Ltd said on Wednesday that the six-week shutdown of its troubled Bulong lateritic nickel plant in Western Australia was completed on June 28 and the plant successfully recommissioned.

No production was undertaken in June and output in the June quarter fell to 732.9 tonnes of nickel and 41.8 tonnes of cobalt from 1,252.9 tonnes of nickel and 94.9 tonnes of cobalt in the March quarter, it said.

Output in the year ended June 30 was 4,006.4 tonnes of nickel and 213.6 tonnes of cobalt.

As previously reported, Preston had to shut down the plant on May 15 ahead of a scheduled major maintenance shutdown after nozzles failed in the the high pressure flash tank.

Preston said it had repaired defective nozzles in the heater and flash circuits, implemented improved gypsum control measures and completed cobalt refinery modifications.

Both the leach and solvent extraction circuits achieved performance significantly above design after the end of the month although the electrowinning circuit has been slower to recommission, it said.

Use of capacity in the tankhouse requires improvement and has been the subject of a concerted effort since the end of June.

Preston shares have been suspended since last October as the company seeks to refinance Bulong.
