Amazon has just re-priced employee options down to $30 per share which in my opinion is rewarding its employees for
failure to lift the company into the profitability

I disagree. Employees shouldn't be made to paid for the market going hysterical.

An investment firm (the IPO underwriter) looked at the fundamentals of this company and assessed fair value at $1.50 per share in May 97. The market high two years later is $140. Anybody hired around that period last year has no hope of profiting from stock options through no fault of their own. Market expectations were unrealistic.
