TP, I believe it was Avici who chose to disassociate itself from Nortel. Avici made a decision to pursue the IPO route rather than be acquired by Nortel. At that time, Nortel decided to develop its own product. Apparently, Nortel did not understand the importance of having a router which could scale to the speed and capacity of Juniper and Avici. When the Versalar 25000 failed in its trials with Broadwing, Nortel entered into an agreement with Juniper. (Anybody but Cisco) Nortel was paid some handsome fees by Avici for the development work they did on the Avici router. I just wonder if the experience that Avici gained by working with the Nortel optical engineers will not pay off in a big way for Avici. Think about it. By the way, Nortel is the only stock I own.
