< think that Amati already has all the business that they can handle with their current partners (Motorola, NEC, Siemens, Texas Instruments) and is only interested in additional deals if the terms are favorable for Amati>

But they HAVE to make the patents essential to standards compliance available for a reasonable cost. If they don't, and play games, they wind up pissing people off and hurting the market AND themselves.

<I assume that Amati is ready to license its patents on terms that are acceptable to the companies in the field>

Other than what Amati considered a few strategic "sweetheart" deals, until they finally realized the corner they had backed themselves into by counting on MOT, they had to come back to ADI.

Appreciate your perspective on the other companies. Obviously time will tell who the winners will be. What about TXN? Besides having the most powerful DSP chip available for ADSL, what about all the other uses for C6X? Will TXN become the Intel of DSP?

<I think that Amati has a chance to get a multi billion market cap if they do well>

And of course, that would be amazingly well (a ten banger) and obviously a good ways off.
