Hi wx. Just saw a story that CA had an electrical emergency.

Deregulation. I'm not pro or con but people should understand what it means. The good news is lower prices. The bad news is inconvenience. Examples-

Airline - cheaper to fly today than 30 years ago in inflation adjusted bucks. Getting the cheap price is complicated and time consuming.

Moving - moving is cheaper than it was before deregulation but now the kid on drugs is packing your stuff instead of the man in the moving uniform with the white gloves.

Electricity - the state used to guarantee the utility company a profit. In return, the utility company guaranteed the state capacity. Now you can get generation cheaper due to competition but NOBODY guarantees capacity anymore. Electricity is no longer a right. If your supplier throws a turbine blade, you could get stuck with huge replacement power costs or you could get cut off, depending on the contract. Rotating brownouts (reduced voltage which will turn your 7 year vacuum cleaner into a 5 year vacuum cleaner) and rotating blackouts (your turn to be off for a few hours) will become a way of life in many areas soon IMO.

The American people will accept this lowering of their standard of living over time if it is done slowly.
