Accountability cont....
>>Yes, love holds people accountable. I teach my son to be honest, and reprove him if he is not. I teach my son to value learning, and make him do his homework. I teach my son to be kind to others, and am angry when he is mean. I guess I could not hold him accountable, and let him grow into a lying, ignorant thug, but I think I won't...... I want the focus to be lower. Let's get a little karma yoga going here, let's fulfill our duties at each stage of our life........>>
Ego, not love, holds people accountable.
There's a book that's been on the best sellers list this past year entitled "Smart Love."
Nothing to do with me, but the author's premise is that we essentially have a wrong understanding of "love" when it comes to raising our children.
My interpretation: When a parent becomes angry, this creates a violent pinching-off of perceived love/light which starts this irrational process which produces and reinforces FEAR instead of love into a child's life.
Children don't naturally want to "take" and be selfish and complain, etc. These are adaptive behaviors which naturally extend from the early understanding they get from us about love: ie. there's a FIXED amount of it to go around.
As a parent with two boys, I understand how children and their parents can think/react this way, but this doesn't have to be the case. For there is no limit to the amount of light, energy and love in the universe.
Peace.
