Caldera strategy highlights new role for Unix
yahoo.cnet.com

Does this article mention All the unix big boys and linux and even the other x86 nixes

BUT NO MENTION OF freebsd. This is another reason why using an OS that is dying??? is in many cases a bad idea. freebsd is an OS2 OS in terms of market perception.

now as to the properly administered. I believe that linux is far easier to admin in terms of figuring out the how from how-to's

freebsd is like the typical unix and thus worst to admin than nt. But I don't believe that their is a secure nt as billy may have all sorts of back doors yet to be found out.

For many server task the choice of freebsd or linux is about if you know it already or not. If one must learn I always recommend Linux. If one is well versed and the nature of the task is mature then free or linux don't matter. But if one want an xdisplay to admin or for whatever then linux is the choice. But then again xig supports both and if it supports the video card in question then free or linux is of little import.

Question. Is there any quantative data that indicates that freebsd is more anything than Linux? All I've read are in the opinion of.

Now I will grant that since for every freebsd app there are maybe 50 to 500 times more linux asps and for ever device supported in freebsd there are 50 to 500 more devices supported in linux and thus on can argue that there are thousands more opening in linux than freebsd.

But for every freebsd programmer there may be 50050 Linux programmers. I wonder of the top 99.9% of all unix variant programmers also have Linux and then some fraction of the remaining .1% have some use for/of freebsd.

I have used/admin'ed all the unixes and linux distributions mentioned in the article above and a few others. oh except no monterey. I have none on freebsd. I currently a slight mandrake distribution bigot. It still ships with xv.
