Hi richard surckla; Sorry for the "you guys". On the subject of hate mail & c.

I am truly sorry (and stunned) to hear that people are sending you hate mail, but at the same time I am very curious about what they would include in it, and who it is from. Perhaps you can see why I don't give out the name of the company I work for etc. In fact, I would advise anyone posting to a public forum on controversial subjects, like this one, to avoid becoming a public figure. Imagine what Rambus management, TheRegister editors, or Jack Robertson must get. The worst thing I've ever seen was a PM where someone (more or less politely) informed me that she was putting me on "ignore" on the basis not of having read my posts, but instead because of what she had read about me on another thread. It was hilarious, I wish I'd kept a copy of it.)

If someone threatens your life or property via e-mail, I think you have a responsibility to send it on to the authorities and let them deal with it. (For me, though, I have to admit that I would just ignore it. But at the same time I would feel a little guilty for not turning them in. People don't have a right to say absolutely anything they want to.)
