"Brian Gilmartin, portfolio manager at Trinity Asset Management in
Chicago, is using the market's current state of confusion to "reshuffle
the portfolio." Translation? Selling names such as Dell (DELL:Nasdaq
- news)
and WorldCom (WCOM:Nasdaq - news) while adding to
existing positions in Cisco (CSCO:Nasdaq - news), Applied Materials
(AMAT:Nasdaq - news), EMC (EMC:NYSE - news), Sun Microsystems
(SUNW:NYSE - news), and Wal-Mart (WMT:NYSE - news).

Gilmartin runs about $40 million in separate accounts at Trinity, the
largest of which was up 10.2% through July 31 of this year, vs. a 2.6%
decline for the S&P 500.

The fund manager admitted it's not an "opportune time" to sell Dell
and WorldCom, but believes the other names will do better going
forward on a relative basis. To wait would mean having to buy them
at a higher price later on, he fears. "I've got to position things so when
the next momentum market hits, I'm in the names that will do best."
