hi.
> I don't get your one person point though.
you make some good points here. there are some other angles though.
> A lot of persons might be putting in a bid on Priceline at the same time or at different time.
right. perhaps there is competition at the same time. that depends on the supply. but if you put your bid in 2 hours after me, i'm already filled.
> And those people will have to bid over the same amount of inventory or supply.
not necessarily. the supply can be fluid. especially since there are multiple suppliers. who knows how much the supply might fluctuate during the hour i'm waiting to hear if i'm filled or not.
> So, if you place a request on Priceline for a flight for your own price of 145 dollars and I place a request with my own price of 150 dollars I will get the seat on the plane before you.
if submitted at the same time, true. but if there's enough supply, then we both get filled. for me not to get filled, all the airlines seats would have to be selling above $145. again, i think it's more of a supply issue than a demand issue. if we both get filled, then you spent $5 more for the ticket than you had to.
i would agree with you that there is a potential, but not a certainty, that we are bidding against each other indirectly. when the supply is limited, that's when your bid may hurt me. otherwise, your bid has nothing to do with mine. they are simply questions of the airline deciding whether or not to choose to sell me a ticket at that price.
right?? in any event, however cool i think it is, it's not helping the stock price at all ! do you have any explanation for the severe recent drop? i had purchased a 2003 50 leaps option for $1200, which is now somewhere around $500. i suppose i'll wait til next year when the 2004 options come out, and then buy one of those. keep dollar averaging in. right? fortuantely for me, my largest holding, dimethaid research, tripled in february and is set to take off again. so priceline is just a small attempt at diversification for me. i'm glad i bought the 2003 leaps and not something earlier.
