(PR NEWSWIRE)This Just In ... Men and Women Prefer Tidy House to Sex According to Home &
Garden Television Trends Report

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- People would rather reach for
their feather dusters than for each other, according to the third annual HOME
& GARDEN TELEVISION LIFESTYLE TRENDS REPORT, which was released today. This
compelling survey reveals a wide-ranging portrait of today's "Home
Enthusiasts," homeowners and renters who love to spend their time, money and
energy on home projects. Today, 83% of all homeowners spend enough time and
money to be called home enthusiasts, and they report spending in the past year
a mind-boggling $800 billion and almost 73 billion hours building, remodeling,
decorating, gardening, landscaping and pursuing a variety of hobbies and
crafts.
For the past three years, HGTV has joined forces with Yankelovich
Partners, Inc. to conduct in-depth interviews with a cross-section of American
adults. Please credit THE 2000 HOME & GARDEN TELEVISION LIFESTYLE TRENDS
REPORT on the following excerpts:

Plug in the vacuum, I'll slip into something more comfortable ...

* Both men and women get more satisfaction from keeping their home neat
and attractive (57%) than from their sex lives (49%).

Who wants to see his house? No one. And that's their final answer.

* When asked whose home they'd most like to visit, adults chose Bill Gates
as their top choice (20.7%), trouncing such celebrities as second-place
Michael Jordan (13.8%), Whoopi Goldberg (9.4%), Julia Roberts (8.5%), Rosie
O'Donnell (8.3%), Stephen King (7.0%) and Barbra Streisand (6.5%). Last on
the list? Regis Philbin (2.5%). Sorry, Reege ...

Who wears the pants in Home Enthusiast households? Depends on who you
ask.

* Women are twice as likely as men to claim authority in decorating
issues. But somehow the men don't know it. Nearly three-quarters of men
think they are "in" on the decision, while only half of women think men have a
say.
* Almost 70% of couples share the decisions about building and remodeling
projects.

The good, the bad, and the plumbing bills ...

* Nearly three-fourths of Home Enthusiasts who live in older houses (built
before 1970) are rewarded by "strong memories and emotional ties," but are
also almost 50% more likely to find them "physically and emotionally draining"
than those living in houses built after 1990.
* Almost 40% of Home Enthusiasts have lived where they are for 11 years or
more. These dwellers report a strong bond with their homes.

You say dot.com, I say TV ...

* Surprisingly, mature Home Enthusiasts (35-54) are more likely than their
younger counterparts (18-34) to use the Internet to get ideas, information and
inspiration for their home projects (34% vs. 30%).
* Nearly two-thirds of Home Enthusiasts rely on television for
information, inspiration and ideas for home projects. They say TV is more
up-to-date, entertaining and informative than other sources.

Headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., with offices in New York, Los Angeles,
Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta, Home & Garden Television (HGTV), which is now

HGTV Canada and provides much of the Canadian network's daily programming.

Philippines. HGTV is wholly owned by The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP),
