It astonishes me that SI allows someone to be pilloried under the subject heading, as Paul Engel was. If the notes are so offensive, why repeatedly call them to everyone's attention? Banning would seem to be "punishment" enough, and it would appear to serve little purpose to constantly remind people of the posts. It seems vindictive -- and childish -- to post news of the banning in the thread summary, with references to the offending notes. It makes it seem as though the thread's intent, summarized in the subject heading, is in part to remind people forever of past grievances, to pillory on the town green one member for his notes. If SI is moderating the thread, they should consider removing this from the topic heading, in the interest of fairness to the person who has been banned.

"Paul Engel was voted to be banned for for two weeks, starting 7/25/200 The vote results was 19.5 in favor and 7.5 against (some one split his vote)."
