fiberman,

Me too... glad I exited this pup a long time ago... HOWEVER!!!!! I purchased the hell out of COMS in the mid 20's after they had announced the PALM spin off - that was like September last year. COMS traded slowly up into early January. Then - about a month prior to the PALM spin-out the stock shot up to over 100. I sold my position the day before and the morning of the spinout and pocketed a very tidy gain.

Will the same happen with LU at the micro-electronics spin out? Well... let's see. NT was asking $100B for it's opto-electronics business from GLW. JDSU/ETEK/SDLI is valued at over $100B. Seems reasonable to assume that LU's should be as well. LU's networking business? Well... let's see... JNPR, RBAK, CSCO, NT, FDRY, etc etc... all have very nice market caps... let's call LU's 150B... seems reasonable... (note these are just pulling numbers out of the air). Then there is the old business... the old PBX business... LU owns large incumbent positions with the carriers here. Seems to me that should be worth something... call it 30B.

Total valuation - open for argument - call it $300B.

LU current valuation $140B.

I see a double here in the next 12 months.
