are we all of a sudden seeing new screen names coming out of the woodwork?

I don't know whether there are or are not numerically more new names lately, but I have to say that some of the new names have certainly been extremely positive and substantial contributions. This is quite a different thing, welcomely so, than a number of the new names come and gone in the past who had an agenda about some specific stock or who seemed to have come mostly to pick a fight (often without having learned the rules of the game first!).

If one of those SI awards had been for the best quality thread, I can't imagine that this one wouldn't win!
