Hmmm, wait: I thought you could use the proceeds from the short sale to invest for your long posiotion and you would have only to put up capital for the difference in the 2 postion and a (small) initial margin...
Correct me if I'm wrong.
IOM was a good example. It proves the Peter Lynch approach. Buy what you know and what you 'appreciate'. People bought IOM because they loved their product and figured out that soon everyone else would love the product, so the next step was to buy their shares...
