Dear Bosco: I'm over 90% sure Internet Call Waiting (ICW) is an NT rather than a FON offering and that NT is going to be making money directly off it. In addition to reading that the monthly service charge would be from Nortel Networks, nowhere is FON mentioned in any of the information about ICW, not even in the fine print.
Probably the most important evidence to me that FON has nothing to do with this, however, is related to some assistance I obtained from ICW technical support via the telephone this morning.
The problem was that Verison records showed they had switched the number to be used from that of CallWave (internet answering machine, which I used until yesterday) to ICW's yet ICW was not working for me. Talking to the tech support fellow for ICW, he said he was in Ontario during our conversation. Later, as a test to figure out what was going on, he asked me to get into my internet account so that he could try to call me 3 minutes later.
The fellow was able to reach me, but only by calling directly into their server rather than the normal way. This let us know Verison had not done things properly. Although his incoming call did not give a name, it did give the telephone number he was using. It's still in my call log and has a 613 area code (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada).
NT's corporate headquarters are right next door in Ontario area code 905. FON is in Kansas.
Regards,
