I2, The election of a President is more than the "changing of the guard" in the White House. There are many more causes, and effects, than the election of one man, or someday maybe a woman. With that one person, comes a team. The effect on the nation depends on the quality, and ability, of that team, to make the changes that are necessary today, IMO. In many cases, the election of a popular President, brings along with it, a majority in one, or both, houses of Congress of legislators that think along the same lines as the President. I grant you, that some of these popular Presidents have turned out to be the opposites of what they represented themselves to be during the election. The present administration is a painful reminder of that fact.
The only "wise old saying" I can come up with in response to your position, is that if you don't vote, you lose your privilege of bitching about the politics of the nation. If your candidate loses, and you voted for him, you have a lot of "bitching" rights. If he wins, you can still bitch about the way the mean old media is treating him, or whatever else you might want to bitch about, but if you don't vote, you ain't got no say-so. ~H~ |
