Dear KM: Crawl over, please, and make some more room in the dog house--because I'm about to crawl in with you.
Most of the people nominated for awards are names I have never seen before. Some of the most valuable people here at SI will never get an award because the only people who know them are regulars on the one, two, or three threads to which they post. That said, I am going to hand out some awards to SI "unknowns" right now:
hlpinout on the Compaq thread deserves a special award for MVP (most valuable poster). Since hlpinout joined SI the end of January 1999, he has gone out of his way to uncover news and articles on Compaq to share with the thread. Even people at CPQ's corporate headquarters lurk on the CPQ thread to read hlpinout's postings! His selflessness is appreciated by everyone on the thread. Rudedog, NightWrite, PCSS, Elwood Dowd, John Koligman... I better stop listing names of thread regulars who have made--and continue to make--invaluable contributions to the thread the past few years. No matter what one thinks of Compaq the corporation, the regulars on the CPQ thread are a fine group of people--but not well known enough off that thread to get nominated for anything.
Without a doubt DownSouth gets the MVP award for the NTAP thread. Should a poll be taken of the thread regulars, there is a 99.9% chance his MVP award would be a unanimous decision.
Finally [before a pair of mittens are forced onto my hands], the SUNW thread deserves a special award for congeniality. On how many threads is there a resident dooms-day short that is actually *liked* by the bullish, LTB&H thread regulars, actually considered the thread's mascot? I refer to the SUNW thread's own twister [that's "twister" with a small "t," as he will let people know]. Charles Tutt, QwikSand, JC Jaros, JDN, Cheryl Williamson, Jean M. Gauthier, I could write a paragraph about why each of these SUNW thread regulars deserves an award--but I'll restrict the individual award for our mascot, twister.
Regards,
