Spoke to Leonard Carr as promised

This post is going to be long but it is chock full of commentary from the company. By the way thanks for the e-mails I got requesting information … and for the good wishes for my interview – it went well.

Leonard Carr’s comments – Fundamentally the company could not be better. With record revenue posted and future growth anticipated the officers were disappointed at the way the stock has performed over the last 10 days. He said that the analyst covering the stock had accurately revised earnings to .15 cents from .12 about 40 to 45 days before earnings. He also said that if an analyst cannot predict accurately within that time frame then he should not be an analyst. If the analyst had asked for guidance, he (LC) would have guided him lower so that we could beat the street by the ‘magic’ penny.

INSIDER SELLING: I asked him to comment on what happened and if we were going to see a repeat of any insider selling. Insider selling will not rear it’s ugly head in the near future. He also commented that there are so many newsletters and services that the story kept resurfacing with less than accurate information regarding percentages of holdings sold. The accurate number was between 10 to 29 percent of holdings sold. He also said that since none of the officers had sold prior, they made a pact to all sell at the same time.

ORDERS: I asked him if he could comment on the $17 mln. order that I’ve heard about. He said that they will not give out individual order information because if they announce orders, then they have to announce prices and that could cause issues from 1) competition dissecting their numbers and … 2) from customers who may feel someone is getting a better deal than they are. He did say that orders have been extremely robust. He also said that their projections are very heartening. He would not deny the BIG order though.

IGNITION SALES: He used the word “phenomenal growth” very often. He said a big chunk of the growth right now is coming from the Ignition series. He also said that for the first time in several years “Safe” sales have hit double-digit growth rates.

NASDAQ: Should see the listing within this quarter. I probed him and commented that him and I had this conversation in the first week of June and he predicted the listing was “a couple of weeks away” and now we were in the first week of August. He said that the Nasdaq had asked for no further information (as you were inquiring RNYE), and that they had given him the verbal OK as far as the listing was concerned – that there were no problems with their application but they did not give him a specific date. He said they were all pushing for the listing to happen soon.

NCR Rumor – Full of s h i t. No, NCR is not going after their biggest client, and no they will not lose business with this client. Their business is on a strong growth path and will continue to grow. He believes that the rest of the company’s sales growth will start to eclipse the growth of this one client and consequently the total percentage of weight this client will carry will go down.

CHAMELEON: They will announce preliminary progress reports this quarter. The Chameleon will affect revenues in 2001 probably Oct 2001. What has hurt the company is anticipation. They started commenting on the Chameleon while it was on the drawing board 2 years ago and it has taken them the amount of time to get this project rolling as they anticipated and as they had quoted. He believes investors and NOT customers have become impatient about the arrival of this product. He calls it an unprecedented product and is happy about the fact that others like E*Trade and AmEx are venturing into services using similar concepts - this will only help solidify the market. Along the same lines, I heard a report about 7-11 setting up a pilot program to have internet kiosks in their stores where customers can order items such as books and have them delivered to the 7-11 (I also heard they were going to sell sushi at 7-11’s so I don’t know what they are smoking in Dallas). Carr said that the program was with NCR and that 7-11 has been having problems with that. If the pilot works and they decide to outfit stores, at a cost of 50 to 80K a machine that would be a tall order for 50,000 stores. Bottom line – the Chameleon will be a strong and profitable income streams for the future.

ANALYST COVERAGE: HE expects several analysts to come on board within this quarter and a couple have already committed to do so within 60 days. He also expects that with the move to the Nasdaq other analysts will come on board.

I questioned their lack of PR! He said they have been a conservative company regarding announcing every small thing that they do and they have also been conservative regarding forward looking statements - this has allowed them to not miss and earnings estimates. I told him that the street has changed and now demands more information if they are to buy into the company’s vision. Carr said they have realized that and have made it a priority to step up PR. They are also developing a new IR program, which they will roll out in the 1st Quarter of 2001. They will be putting out a lot more announcements in the 2nd half of the year than they did in the first.

I was also surprised to hear him talk about a stepped up advertising and marketing program that they will be aggressively pursuing – his comments .. “we need to do a better job of telling the world about what we are all about and especially telling people about the Chameleon.

He was happy with the Institutional buying and says he now has 20 on board while at this time last year he had only one. He will continue to pursue institutional investing since it generates volume.

I covered a bunch of stuff with him and hope I alleviated some questions out there. I am sanguine that this is a solid company and the hit we took is strictly market related and nothing to do with the fundamentals of the company. These are reasons why I see $18 within a couple of months and why I see $30 in a year to a year and a half. Good night all!
