Alan Abelson is an excellent writer but a poor journalist. He and BARRON'S ought to know that good journalism requires that you print both sides of a story. It's ok if someone believes a stock or group of stocks is going down. But if a lot of analysts think it's going up, then a good paper would print both views, and the rationale behind them -- or print neither.

Here's why the views of the analyst in Abelson's article don't make any sense: In poor countries without a substantial wired infrastructure, wireless is the LOWEST COST solution for both voice and data communication. Even in the U.S., there is a growing trend away from wired and into wireless, particularly for data. A personal digital assistant may be meet the average person's needs for communication, and wireless makes a PDA even more valuable and convenient. Slowdown in wireless? Only a nincompoop would believe that, and only someone essentially devoid of any knowledge of the wireless industry would print such views--unless, of course, someone INTENDED to get the price of the stock down, making it a bargain once again for institutional investors who wished they had gotten in earlier. This would not be the first time that attempts have been made to manipulate the price of QCOM.

As to credibility, note that BARRON'S was unable to come up with the correct spelling for QUALCOMM (all caps, not caps and lower case).
