Marty, DoCoMo is too late to switch NZ to their brand of VW40. Telecom NZ has already begun installing Lucent's CDMA network having decided to ditch their TDMA network and their analogue network [in a few years]. The CDMA network is to start selling service in June 2001. It would be surprising if NTT is able to get them to stop their existing CDMA rollout [which is presumably the idea of the association since NTT has adopted a strategy of taking a stake in VW40 [WCDMA] network prospects].

Meanwhile, the New Zealand spectrum auction is grinding on. Total bids of not even US$20 million so far, so it's very, very slow. Maybe there will be a surprise when the auction is finally over and the slow start will look like one of those Olympic bike races where everyone pedals as slowly as possible for a while, then go flat out towards the end.
