Good morning, Michael!

Time to invest in a new toothbrush!!! What really cracks me up is that your wife never told you. I picture her glancing furtively around, sticking the toothbrush under the faucet and then back in its spot before sneaking out. It makes me think of all the food dropped on the floor during dinner preparations that the cat licks, I step on, pick up, then brush off and serve. I love your stories! I do hope you're writing these gems down-it's one of my biggest regrets that I took notes on so little--and now remember so little. At the time you're so sure that you couldn't possibly forget any of it. But you do.
Although I'm taking a couple of days away to regain my equilibrium and my normal state of obnoxious insouciance, I'm not leaving-I'll be checking messages and probably posting here and there-(I've never been very self-disciplined)Mostly it's that my personal sensitivity level is running too high at the moment to be involved on any but the most surface level.(I could tell when my reaction to George's post on Poetry was that we should send a some operatives to his house, tie him to a kitchen chair, and force him to listen to me read in a Valley Girl accent, the stuff I wrote as a lovesick teenager.)

Thank you for your sweet words. I've been so surprised and touched by the wonderful e-mails and notes. There are so many nice people here and while it was really a tempest in a teapot and now needs to be left to sink into post history, it does add to my ongoing fascination with our relationships online and their verisimilitude to life. I know that I feel closer to some of the people here than I ever did to people in the office I worked in years ago!

And as a thank you I want to invite you all to my house for dinner and honest, I lied about the cat part.
