8/3....AMKR sees modest rev growth
--11:19 am - By Michael Baron
Amkor Technology (AMKR: news, msgs) is falling 3 1/4, or 12.5 percent, to 22 3/4. The West Chester, Pa., provider of contract semiconductor packaging and test services reported second-quarter net income of $51 million, or 33 cents a share, up from last year's profit of $16 million, or 13 cents a share, and 2 cents ahead of the average estimate of analysts polled by First Call. Revenue rose 22 percent in the latest three months to $547 million from $450 million in the same period a year earlier. The company said it expects third-quarter revenue to rise 10-to-12 percent from second-quarter levels, which were below about $30 million below plan due to variance in advanced wafer capacity limitations and the combined impact of a wafer production shift out of chipsets by one of its largest customers and the loss of business in its P3 factory due to a laminate contamination issue. Amkor said wafer capacity limitations appear to be improving and that the contamination issue is resolved but the company must re-qualify for production, which will take a few months.
