If you do switch (this is for anyone thinking about it), make sure that you can do without touching the account for about 3-4 weeks for a full-account transfer. I switched from DLJ to Waterhouse because of DLJ's relatively high commission schedule (BIG mistake--Waterhouse, that is), and then from Waterhouse to Datek to escape Waterhouse and for availability of stop-limit/market orders on Datek (excellent move). Originally, I used Accutrade, my first on-line brokerage. They were good but had the highest commission schedule. I also have accounts with AMEX and my on-line bank, CitiBank, as backups. Anyone's server can go down.
