All administrations politicize science. If you don't think Reagan politicized science than (imo) you aren't thinking. Don't let a rabid hatred for a silly administration blind you to facts. Reagan's science "beliefs" are legendary. And his "ideas" about science had many real scientists rofl. It's not just him though. Most politicians haven't a clue- EVERYTHING for them is political, the actual theories are unimportant.
