I agree about the dominance of Redback at the edge of the network. Unfortunately I don't own the stock (yet).

As far as companies operating in the physical layer design space, AMCC clearly commands a leading role. The acceleration in operating margins to 40% is pretty dern phenomenal.

A possible emerging King candidate in this space/adjacent space is SMTC, with a trailing PSR=15, and operating margins ~28%. They are growing their customer base like a weed ever since the acquisitions of Practial Sciences (PMD circuits for WANS) and Acapella Limited (fiber optics). Each and every quarter operating margins are increasing--> a nice footprint indeed.Management said this margin improvement would continue to evolve for the forseeable future, indicating that the party is just starting :-).
