...know your way around computers...

Thank-you for the compliment.

Now, for some stuff that still has me baffled.

First, how does one write to the environment table from within a program? It seems easy enough to write to the copy of this table made available to your program(s), but the mother lode seems totally elusive.

Second, in Windows, one can open a DOS window. They can right-click and select properties. Under the Screen tab, they can select Initial sizes of 25, 43, or 50 lines. Now, how can programs know what size window they're running in? I've 'cheated' by creating DOS shortcuts and putting "SET LINES=50" in the Batch field so my programs can get learn the window size, but this is an incredibly sloppy practice. These 'tricks' can quickly make an undecipherable mess.

We ALL face challenges which are tough to us, but simple to those who know.

Cheers, PW.
