SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 1997--Strong growth in the telecommunications and networking industries are helping drive a rebound in the semiconductor industry and their stock prices, according to C.B. Lee, semiconductor analyst for Sutro & Co.
Lee and his boss, Dr. Gerald Fleming, a leading semiconductor industry analyst, will be featured speakers at the May 17 Informed Investors Semiconductor Forum at the Red Lion Inn in San Jose.
Also featured are analyst-style presentations by Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD), and automatic test equipment maker Credence Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CMOS). AMD and Credence will give Forum attendees detailed, analyst-style presentations of their business prospects followed by question and answer sessions.
Cost of the San Jose Forum is $18 prepaid or $25 at the door. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the session will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. A continental breakfast will be served.
Also, audio tapes of all presentations are available for a modest fee for the convenience of interested investors who are unable to attend the Forum. Call Informed Investors at 916/448-8222 or 800/992-4683 for information.
"The semiconductors are rebounding nicely along with the rest of the stock market," Lee said in an interview with Informed Investors. "Some sectors will benefit more than others and timing for companies will differ depending on the sector. Telecommunications and networking are strong which are driving a lot of semiconductor business in certain sectors. I will talk about these issues specifically at the Forum."
Lee said AMD's new K6 chips have already created a presence in the chip market and that AMD has a "decent shot" at succeeding in its ongoing battle for market share with industry behemoth Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC).
"With the K6 chip in the market, companies are able to negotiate a better price when dealing with Intel on purchasing Pentium chips," Lee said.
Lee and Fleming will also discuss their outlook of the new Intel Pentium chips on the market and discuss the possible ramifications of the recent patent infringement lawsuits brought against Intel by Digital Equipment Co. (NYSE:DEC) and Cyrix Corp. (NASDAQ:CYRX). It promises to be an interesting Forum.
