Just one more pastiched snippet (from the paper mentioned in my previous post):

Another widespread misconception about Brussels is that anyone in EU times ever called it "Brussels." Because it was simply the eastern part of the Western Alliance, separated from the western part through a peaceful administrative division in 1949 [NATO], the people we call "Euros" always called themselves Europeans, and their empire the Western Civilization. Brussels was the insignificant town the eurocrats chose as the site of their greatly expanded administrative centre, after which only derogatory stylists referred to it as Brussels. The name "Brussels" was first used for the EU by British pundits, who hesitated to call it "Western" because it had not included Washington and found "European Commission" cumbersome. This modern habit of calling the European Union by the trivial name of its administrative city is a bit like calling the United States "Washington."
