I'll see if SI can add the quote, though this has not been a very active thread.

I don't own any of this stock, except as part of my 401K (I work for Nordstrom, but in IT, not in the stores).

Management is downplaying the low earnings, saying that the new marketing/merchandise strategy has not yet had its impact.

I've heard complaints and praise for the "Reinvent Yourself" strategy. It is my understanding that the attempt is to modernize the stores and merchandise, at least in part. It is an expansion, not a replacement. The traditional sections are still there.

More than a year ago, I talked with a woman who did not shop at Nordstrom because she did not like the merchandise. I have also recently heard comments from some long-term customers who feel the new strategy is some kind of betrayal. Overall, the reaction has been good however. And, Nordstrom continues to open new stores all over the country.
