More DeBeers De Beers Invests in Possible Canadian Kimberlite
(August 4, 2000) In another attempt to grab a piece of a viable mine in Canada, De beers will pay Darnley Bay Resources Ltd., a small-cap Toronto-based mining resources firm, $338,000 toward a diamond exploration program located at the Northern tip of the Northwest territories.
Before Darnlay became aware of the areas potential for diamonds, it was originally searching the area for nickel, copper and platinum.
"Three and possibly four diamond fields (clusters) are already indicated from the earlier surveys," said Leon La Prairie, president and chief executive of Darnley Bay.
De Beers, after conducting its own tests, will pay Darnlay to analyze samples covering a 10,000 square kilometer (4,000 square mile) area. |
