Marconi Named First Broadband Network Provider For AmeriNet's 14,000 Member Facilities Agreement Provides Intelligent Broadband Enabled Healthcare Solutions and Services

PITTSBURGH and ST. LOUIS, Aug 7, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- AmeriNet, Inc., the United States' largest membership-based health care group purchasing organization (GPO), announced today that it has signed a two-year agreement with Marconi MNI.LON to promote the company's Intelligent Broadband Networking enabled healthcare solutions to AmeriNet's 14,000 member facilities.
As a result of this agreement, AmeriNet and Marconi, a global provider of advanced communications and medical imaging systems, will promote voice, video and data networking healthcare solutions and services to AmeriNet's membership, which includes hospitals, medical group practices, nursing homes, surgery centers, managed care organizations, pharmacies and integrated delivery networks.
Through this new Marconi/AmeriNet relationship, AmeriNet's member facilities will be among the first in healthcare to take advantage of Marconi's E*NABLE Services(TM) Program for Healthcare, a newly created plan- build-operate solution that offers:
-- Marconi's Intelligent Broadband Networking equipment;
-- project management, integration and installation services;
-- HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliancy
testing;
-- on-site and Web-based network support;
-- business and market assessment; and
-- financial assistance through traditional and recourse leases and
loans.
Bill Bridgwater, president of the Americas for Marconi Communications, says the combination of Marconi networking solutions and services will provide AmeriNet member facilities running Hospital Information Systems (HIS) with the ability to deliver a variety of traditional and new applications, including telemedicine, PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems for radiology applications), and secure EMR (Electronic Medical Record) transmission across multiple facilities and multi-hospital systems. AmeriNet is already an important customer to Marconi Medical Systems, Marconi's global healthcare business, which supplies clinically focused medical imaging systems, services, supplies and information central to modern patient care.
