Marconi Introduces Broadband Communications Solution for North American Healthcare Organizations E*NABLE for Healthcare Combines Marconi's Plan-Build-Operate Services Expertise with Extensive Experience in Healthcare Industry
MONDAY, AUGUST 7, 2000 10:50:00 AM EST PITTSBURGH, Aug 7, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Marconi plc, MNI.LON,MCONY, a global provider of advanced communications and medical imaging solutions, has announced the immediate availability of its plan-build-operate solution, E*NABLE Services(TM) Program for Healthcare (E*NABLE for Healthcare). This program will enable healthcare organizations to provide a higher standard of healthcare at higher rates of efficiencies by delivering broadband networks that support telemedicine, Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and other voice, video and data communications within a single facility, across multiple facilities in the same group, or even across multi-hospital systems.
E*NABLE for Healthcare solutions will involve project management, integration and installation services; on-site and Web-based network support; and business and market assessments. Marconi's E*NABLE for Healthcare clients will include stand-alone facilities, multi-hospital groups and HMOs, as well as Marconi channel partners and system integrators.
Rock Arkie, executive vice president and general manager of Marconi Services Americas, says Marconi will tailor E*NABLE for Healthcare solutions according to individual client needs.
"Engagements will vary in scope based on client needs," he says. "We will provide turnkey solutions for some facilities, develop security strategies for established networks in others, and manage network engineering and installation engagements for others."
"Today's healthcare organizations are facing the challenge of planning, building and operating networks that can keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies," said Christine Tenneson, associate research analyst at IDC. "Competitors, such as Marconi, that offer a comprehensive, healthcare IT solution, particularly with services addressing HIPAA preparedness, are well positioned to succeed within vertical market opportunity."
E*NABLE for Healthcare builds on Marconi's strong domain knowledge in healthcare, established by Marconi Medical Systems, a global supplier of clinically focused medical imaging systems, services, supplies and information central to modern patient care. With E*NABLE for Healthcare, Marconi Medical Systems' existing customers will gain access to advanced networking solutions that will help them realize their radiology information management strategies.
Marconi, a global provider of Intelligent Broadband Networking solutions, already has an established team that focuses on delivering advanced communications networks for healthcare organizations such as North Kansas City Hospital. "The Marconi Services team brought in the right number of people with the right skill sets to augment my staff to design and install our network," say Mary Siero, the hospital's director of information technology. "Our project rolled out on time, and I am pleased with their ongoing operational support."
E*NABLE for Healthcare is a key element of a significant agreement announced today with AmeriNet, the nation's largest membership-based healthcare group purchasing organization. Under the agreement, AmeriNet will offer Marconi's products and services to its more than 14,000 member facilities.
Rock Arkie says E*NABLE for Healthcare addresses the communications issues HCOs face today because Marconi developed the offering after soliciting and analyzing feedback from healthcare customers throughout North America.
"What we found in almost every instance were healthcare organizations starving for comprehensive services and support," he said. "They reported needing the most help with network security, network design and implementation, financing, and operational support. Our response was to create a package that addresses all of these needs."
