First, as I have pointed out, maladaptive traits need not be bread out. Second, it is so in a rather obvious sense: were it prevalent, the species would become extinct. Many homosexuals have children either because they are really bisexual, or because society pressures them into the closet. Suppose that all members of the species were "hard" homosexuals, who cannot, for practical purposes, experience arousal in an encounter with the opposite sex, and that there were no societal pressure to make arrangements to mimic heterosexuality. Goodbye species!
