The LCD business. If Corning is tripling production of the glass, doesn't it stand to reason the rest of the process will need some more equipment supplied? Like thin film deposition gear?

Corning to boost LCD glass output
CORNING, N.Y., Aug 3 (Reuters) - Fiber optics company Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW) on Thursday said that it will invest an additional $250 million to increase production of its liquid crystal display glass used in computers, Internet and communications appliances.

Corning said this investment, in addition to previously announced investments dating from late 1999 totaling more than $500 million, will allow the company to triple its worldwide AMLCD capacity by the end of 2001.

Market demand for Corning's precision flat glass is growing rapidly. Second quarter sales of AMLCD glass increased about 60 percent year over year. The global market for AMLCD glass is currently estimated at $1 billion and is expected to grow over 40 percent each year through 2002, Corning said.

Add in the "wild cards" of superconducting for various apps on the horizon but becoming more visible, and Helix looks more undervalued than ever.
