Nikon 990 product review ...

Only a few people requested this but I felt it worth the time to report my experiences.

First, although I specifically requested a 64MB SanDisk CF card from Tri-State, I received a card from 'Viking'. Not that it mattered much ... because there is no way to conveniently remove the little 16MB Lexar card that comes with the camera. I fully intend to find some tiny pliers and replace that thing. Until then, no end of thumbnail breaking is enough.

I must say that burning CDs at 12x is damned good. But all that I could find for CD-RW was a wait list on a single source for 10X CD-RWs. That review will have to wait until EVERYONE understands that 10X CD-RW is a good thing.

As to the Nikon 990, it was worth its weight gold. I spent some time snapping shots of prospective rental/purchase units but it REALLY paid off when I found my new home. As the project manager explained how she was unable to provide copies of the lease because her "all-in-one" wouldn't support 'legal' sheets ... I took Nikon 990 snapshots of the lease and made my own copies.

If you have a grand+ to spend ... don't screw around with anything less. NIMH batteries last a day or more. Get a 990 and a charger and a dozen batteries. Do that and you will be "one happy camper".

Heck ... I only own 450 SNDK shares and spent only a few of my post-adolescxent years making a living from my photographic skills ... so what do I know? I spent many of my "photo" years as the practice partner for the assistant to the highest ranking J. Jitsui "Sensee" in the U.S. ( a fifth Dan) ... but who's counting?

For those who inest on a bidget, be advised. For those whose budgets are doing fine, buy a 990 and enjoy.

Craig
