"Why does this never get mentioned by these "investment experts"?" Most investment "experts" are trained in finance and accounting and do not understand technology issues. Those few who do have academic training in the sciences and who bother to read up on developments in wireless communication are decidedly in the minority.
A second issue that permeates much of the so-called analysis in telecommunications is bias among analysts for larger companies. When choosing between a smaller, newer company with a "disturbing" technology, vs. an older, more well known, well established company that dominates an industry, the typical analyst believes bigger is better, or at least safer and makes the choice accordingly.

Because of these two factors that characterize the type of analysis done by or for portfolio managers, it is going to take some time before the people whose decisions really influence stock prices understand that QUALCOMM is to the current era what RCA was during the 1920's to 1950's -- the company with most of the relevant patents in its field. Irwin Jacobs and Andrew Viterbi are every bit, if not more than the equal of David Sarnoff, who built RCA into the greatest developer and holder of AM radio patents, and later many TV patents as well. Just as RCA dominated radio and TV through its patents, so will QUALCOMM remain the leader in wireless communications of the 21st Century.
